Craig Tomowski stood with his fists gripped onto the front of the tracker’s jacket.

“What’s red? What do you mean they’ve gone?” He pushed the man to the ground and stood over him. The tracker seemed to be having a personal crisis.

“We’re faders? Am I a monster?” he was muttering.

Tomowski looked at the empty cordoned-off space before him. They’d gone. How? And along with his lucky spork—that was annoying. He couldn’t believe the job had been screwed up so badly. He didn’t seem able to catch a break.

“Maybe I should eat that bullet now,” he said to the mumbling tracker.

“Sir?” asked one of the Agents.

Tomowski’s phone rang and he held it to his ear.

“I see.” He sighed. “Push the button... Yes, all of them.”

He disconnected the phone. As he watched, the tracker before him stiffened, and then blood poured from his eyes and nose as he collapsed lifeless to the ground. Tomowski had made an effort to remember the kid’s name while he was alive, but now, it was gone. Irrelevant.

“Clean this up,” he said to the Agents, then walked back to the car.
